Hard Rocks Jewelry was established in 1989. Michael Mahger, its owner, had spent many years involved in the jewelry trade and was bothered by the lack of care and quality of service that he had witnessed. Knowing that customers deserved a certain level of knowledgeable service, the owner decided that it was time to put his experience and expertise to the use and benefit of the consumer. As his business grew, he came to be asked by several associate companies to assist them in their wholesale purchasing as well. Ultimately this led to Hard Rocks Jewelry to expand its business to include wholesale business along with the existing retail. The company's basic concept of "Hard Rocks, Soft Prices" was a cornerstone of Michael's business philosophy. He wished to provide all of his customers, retail or wholesale, with a high level of service and a quality of care giving them the best possible gemstone or jewelry piece for the most affordable price he could obtain. A long list of both retail and wholesale clientele soon followed, appreciating the fair and honest approach that Hard Rocks Jewelry stood for.

In 2003, Hard Rocks Jewelry began its next phase of development and answering the customer's mind. Coming upon website after website that seemed focused on their own needs rather than genuinely taking care of their customers, Michael began development of www.hardrocksjewelry.com. The same concern and commitment to customer service and satisfaction that originally led to the creation of Hard Rocks Jewelry itself several years earlier was a driving force in the design and development of the new expansion to the internet. He felt that just because a potential customer was not based in Los Angeles, that they didn't deserve the benefits, treatment, and service that Hard Rocks Jewelry customers had come to know and value.
